Corporate Social Responsibility

Doing our part to serve the communities and environments we work in.

Sully-Miller is committed to making a positive impact for the local communities and environments we operate within. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is something we take seriously and deeply value. Just like how it’s our job to build quality infrastructure that will last for decades, it is also our job to have a positive societal impact that will last as long as the company.

CSR Initiatives

Electric Trucks & Charging Stations

Sully-Miller Contracting Company is committed to placing the environment at the forefront of our mind, starting with how we travel daily: our vehicles.

To reduce our carbon footprint, Sully-Miller has begun implementing the use of Electric Vehicles (EVs) as a cleaner method of transportation. In terms of energy efficiency, electric motors can convert up to 85% of the energy they burn into motion, a staggering contrast to the mere 40% that combustion engines can convert. EVs also produce significantly less carbon and greenhouse gas emissions than gasoline-powered vehicles, even when factoring in the emissions it takes to make their batteries.

In line with these benefits, Sully-Miller has currently leased five Ford Lightnings and installed four EV stations throughout our sites. Though this one step cannot instantly remedy the environmental impacts that our industry creates, we believe that every action matters. To that end, we will continue working towards a greener future for construction, one step – or vehicle – at a time.

Mason Bee Houses

When most people think of pollinators, the honeybee usually comes to mind, but California is home to many native bee species, including the highly effective Mason Bee.
Unlike honey or bumble bees, Mason Bees are solitary, don’t have a queen or hive to defend, and rarely sting, making them safe around children and pets. They’re also super pollinators (up to 120 times more effective than honeybees) thanks to their hairy, “scruffy” bodies and independent habits. Emerging in early spring, long before honeybees, they boost pollination just as fruit trees and early blooms begin to flower. This year, Sully-Miller invited employees to support biodiversity by creating a welcoming habitat for Mason Bees with Mason Bee Houses that could be hung around their home gardens.

LA Regional Food Bank

Sully-Miller Contracting Company is devoted to making lasting, positive impacts on the areas in which we operate, not only through our construction services, but also through our contributions to the community.

This past May, Sully-Miller employees participated in Sully-Miller’s Day of Caring by volunteering at the LA Regional Food Bank. This was an incredible opportunity to give back to the communities of Los Angeles County, an area that our company consistently works in and with.

In our effort to be a strong community partner and support the LA Regional Food Bank’s mission to “mobilize resources to fight hunger in our community,” Sully-Miller volunteers sorted and boxed over 2,037 meal kits for those in need. These kits will be distributed to individuals and families throughout LA County, an effort that Sully-Miller is proud to have participated in.

Bevi Machine

Sustainable business practices come in all shapes and sizes at Sully-Miller. From utilizing recycled materials on job sites to eliminating plastic water bottles in the office, we are dedicated to ensuring that all Sully-Miller spaces are aligned in our efforts to be environmentally responsible.

To that end, Sully-Miller recently installed a Bevi Machine in our Brea Office. By eliminating the need for plastic bottles, this water dispenser decreases plastic waste, reduces our contribution to harmful carbon emissions in bottle production/shipment, and increases our efforts in sustainability.

The annual carbon footprint of bottled water parallels that of about 5 million cars. With the installation of the Bevi Machine, Sully-Miller has taken a crucial step in reducing this number. As of July 2024, we have saved over 36,400+ plastic bottles, an environmental impact equivalent to saving the CO2 emissions from driving over 6,655 miles!
