Sully-Miller Helps the Homeless on Skid Row
Sully-Miller Contracting Company not only leads by example professionally, but philanthropically. Sully-Miller employees have dedicated their personal time to raising funds and awareness for a variety of causes including cancer research and helping underprivileged children.
The Sully-Miller team began 2015 with their best foot forward by seeking to pay it forward. They considered many worthy causes and decided on helping Los Angeles’ homeless on Skid Row.
The heart of downtown Los Angeles’ Skid Row is comprised of roughly 50 city blocks. It is estimated that the population of Skid Row ranges from 8,000 to 11,000 people. It holds the dubious honor of being the largest, stable population of homeless people in the United States.
Sully-Miller’s events planning committee took the lead by coordinating internal donations of cash, blankets, clothing and shoes. Food was also collected – bread, peanut butter and jelly.
On a Friday afternoon at the office, employees used the break room and formed an assembly line to make over 300 sandwiches. In addition to the food, Sully Miller’s HR Specialist Tiffany Thompson used the money collected to purchase essential toiletries like soap, shampoo, toothpaste and tooth brushes.
The next morning, on Saturday, February 21st, Sully-Miller’s Tiffany Thompson, Lorinda Peterson, and Cynthia Zamora, delivered all of the donations to the Los Angeles Mission in downtown Los Angeles.
On behalf of her colleagues, Tiffany expressed, “It was truly a humbling experience, and a wonderful plan.” She went on to say, “Thank you to all of our generous employees and our dedicated events planning committee.”
Giving feels great. Sully-Miller Contracting Company is back to considering another philanthropic cause; everyone is incredibly eager to execute the next “pay it forward” project in the coming months.
