Los Angeles Valley College Solar Energy Project Lots C & D
Let there be power…solar power!
What was once a stark, dilapidated and sorry looking parking lot at Los Angeles Valley College - is now a shaded, expertly paved and solar-power-providing parking lot.
The 4MW solar project was designed by Chevron Energy Solutions, who in turn hired Sully-Miller Contracting Company to aide in the construction. The new project is another step that LACCD is taking in an effort to make its colleges more carbon neutral through its Renewable Energy Plan.
Los Angeles Valley College’s parking lots C & D is one of the largest urban solar generation facilities in the United States. The solar carports provide shade for approximately 730 vehicles. These panels combined with solar panels on other buildings at Los Angeles Valley College are projected to generate more than 5 million kW hours of energy - enough to meet all of the campus' electric needs.
The expansive lot required complete rejuvenation. Sully-Miller's work included:
• placement of crushed miscellaneous base
Asphalt materials provided by Blue Diamond Materials.
