Project Spotlight: 710 Freeway
I-710 Project Update - Phase 4 Completed 3 Weeks Early
Sully-Miller Contracting Co. has completed the work for seven 55 hour weekends on the I-710. The work was originally planned to take 10 55-hour weekends. But we were able to complete all work on both the Southbound and Northbound lanes a full three weeks early.
The first 4 weekends consisted of removal of existing concrete, asphalt, base material and subgrade, grading, placing base materials, hot mixed asphalt from Blue Diamond Materials and concrete on the Southbound Lanes. The Southbound lanes were then paved with rubberized hot mixed asphalt.
Underground crossing on the Northbound 710 Starting on the 5th weekend Sully-Miller Contracting Co.'s crews started working on the Northbound lanes, consisted of removal of existing concrete, asphalt, base material and subgrade, grading, placing base materials, hot mixed asphalt from Blue Diamond Materials and concrete. Traffic was diverted to the Southbound lanes as to have minimal impact on local traffic. The 7th weekend the Northbound lanes were paved with rubberized hot mixed asphalt.
On all 7 weekends the freeway was open earlier than scheduled for the Monday morning commute.
Sully-Miller Contracting Co. is now moving in to Phase 5, which will complete the reminder of the work during the normal working hours.
Weekend Work
Weekend Work
Sully-Miller Contracting Co. broke ground on the 710 Freeway SR710 project in July of 2009.
This project is a critical improvement to the Alameda Corridor, stretching from the 105 Freeway north to Firestone Blvd. This 2-year project also crosses the Los Angeles River. Scheduled to have a minimal impact on traffic, our crews will be working both days and nights, and ten consecutive 55 hour weekends.
The work includes removal of concrete pavements, and the installation of new center medians, guard rails, retaining walls, overhead signs and asphalt pavement. Blue Diamond Materials will be supplying the asphalt materials with aggregates from United Rock Products.
Overseeing the work is Project Manager Travis Clausen, Project Superintendent Arnulfo Aguirre, Project Engineer Mauricio Arreola, and Project Foreman Juan Lizama.
